LA CASA DEL PANE WEB PROJECT

“The bread house” is a net art project that launches a contest to all the people who are currently experiencing the COVID-19 lockdown. The project invites to CREATE symbols of good wishes and rebirth made with forms of bread. The creations will be documented and shared on social networks. Bread: the symbolic element par excellence, nourishment of the body and spirit, a metaphor for life, whose sharing goes beyond the limits of our isolation, setting a large virtual community.
The Bread House’s journey began in Sicily, in Salemi, a small town known for the bread altars. It has reached several cities and has been hosted by several museums and foundations, including the Museo Riso of Palermo, the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation of Turin and the Mucem of Marseilles. Over the years and throughout its various editions, the Bread House has been figured out as an itinerant art device aggregating people through workshops focused on bread-making. In these occasions different worlds and cultures have come together thanks to the creation of artistic installations. Bread is a global heritage that encompasses needs and traditions; the Bread House has expressed through bread the symbols related to various cultures and religions in a syncretic dimension capable of achieve moments of effective sharing.
The artist says: “In a time where social distancing has created scars in life and in the relationships among human beings, I imagined an edition of the Bread House as a bridge between individual expressions and collective expressions, with a strong sense of community as the final aim. I mean the great universal family that goes beyond localisms and national borders. I conceive a Bread House made up of many houses that open and communicate with each other; no longer the idea of a house as a place to lock yourself in, but a house as a place that overcomes, through digital tools, the physical limits of our isolation. This is in order to find the strength to express hope through the networking and the simple gesture of sharing.”

Progetto di net art, avviato durante i giorni di confinamento domestico e rivolto a tutte le persone vivevano questa terribile esperienza. Il progetto invitava alla realizzazione di simboli di pane come esercizio di augurio e rinascita, da documentare e condividere sui social (#lacasadelpaneweb). Il pane, elemento simbolico per eccellenza, nutrimento del corpo e dello spirito, metafora di vita, prendeva forma sul web all’interno di una grande casa che connetteva ambienti e persone partecipanti al progetto.
La Casa del Pane, è nata in Sicilia, a Salemi, città degli altari di pane, negli anni e nelle sue varie edizioni, si è configurata come un dispositivo artistico itinerante che ha aggregato tramite percorsi di arte partecipativa incentrati sulla panificazione. Ha raggiunto diverse città ed è stato ospitato da diversi musei e fondazioni, tra cui Museo Riso di Palermo, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo di Torino e Mucem di Marsiglia.
Le persone sono state coinvolte attraverso numerosi laboratori dove mondi e culture differenti si sono uniti grazie alla creazione di installazioni artistiche. Il pane è un patrimonio globale che racchiude bisogni e tradizioni; La Casa del Pane ha espresso e articolato, attraverso il pane, simboli afferenti a varie culture e religioni, in una dimensione sincretica capace di restituire momenti di reale condivisione.
Durante la pandemia, il distanziamento sociale ha creato un solco profondo nella vita e nella condivisione fra gli esseri umani e l’artista ha immaginato un’edizione de La Casa del Pane come ponte e legame di espressioni individuali, capace di ampliare e rafforzare il senso della collettività, della grande famiglia universale che va al di là di localismi e confini nazionali. Una Casa del Pane fatta di tante case che si aprono e comunicano. Non più la casa come luogo in cui chiudersi, ma la casa come un luogo che supera, attraverso la condivisione del pane (fisica e virtuale), i limiti fisici a cui sono costrette le esistenze, trovando in un semplice gesto la forza di esprimere una dimensione di speranza.
