TEMPESTA NEL NULLA (Engadina / Polizzi)

Tempesta nel nulla (Engadina / Polizzi) brings together two landscapes connected to the figure of Giuseppe Antonio Borgese: the Swiss mountains of the Engadin, where the writer spent his summers, and those of Polizzi Generosa in Sicily, his place of origin, to which he remained attached although he never returned.
The title refers to Borgese’s novel of the same name, one of his most visionary and intimate works. The images overlap photographic fragments from the two territories, generating an unstable geography made of distance, memory and belonging. The landscape thus takes on a dreamlike and shifting form, suspended between real place and evocation, biography and literary image.
Tempesta nel nulla (Engadina / Polizzi) was developed as an autonomous series within Polis Lexis, a project dedicated to Giuseppe Antonio Borgese and to the relationship between word, place and memory. One of the images appears within the installation Il rifugio della parola, screen-printed in a small square window on the façade of the library in Polizzi Generosa. The series is later taken up in the book Polis Lexis, where it marks the rhythm of the pages and the texts. In the publication, the process of superimposition opens onto a hypertextual dimension, creating a continuous relationship between context, artistic project, restitution and documentation.
Tempesta nel nulla enters into dialogue with writing while preserving its autonomy: the images suspend the act of reading, open visual pauses, and bring the landscape into the structure of the book. The same movement runs through the series as a whole: the works begin from real places and lead them towards a more fragile and mental vision. Through superimposition, the mountains of the Engadin and Polizzi cease to be a simple backdrop and become a site of relation, where biography, literature, memory and distance take form within the same image.

Tempesta nel nulla (Engadina / Polizzi) mette in relazione due paesaggi legati alla figura di Giuseppe Antonio Borgese: le montagne svizzere dell’Engadina, dove lo scrittore trascorreva le estati, e quelle di Polizzi Generosa, luogo d’origine a cui rimase legato pur senza farvi mai ritorno. Il titolo rimanda all’omonimo romanzo, uno dei testi più visionari e intimi di Borgese. Le immagini sovrappongono frammenti fotografici dei due territori, generando una geografia instabile, fatta di distanza, memoria e appartenenza. Il paesaggio prende così una forma onirica e instabile, sospesa tra luogo reale ed evocazione, tra biografia e immagine letteraria.
Tempesta nel nulla (Engadina / Polizzi) nasce come serie autonoma all’interno di Polis Lexis, progetto dedicato a Giuseppe Antonio Borgese e al rapporto tra parola, luogo e memoria. Una delle immagini appare all’interno dell’installazione Il rifugio della parola, serigrafata in una piccola finestra quadrata, sulla facciata della biblioteca di Polizzi Generosa. La serie viene poi ripresa nel libro Polis Lexis scandendo il ritmo delle pagine e dei testi. Nella pubblicazione, il processo di sovrapposizione si apre alla dimensione ipertestuale, in una continuità completa fra contesto, progetto artistico, restituzione e documentazione. Tempesta nel nulla entra in rapporto con la scrittura senza perdere la propria autonomia: le immagini sospendono la lettura, aprono pause visive, portano il paesaggio dentro la struttura del libro. Lo stesso movimento attraversa la serie nel suo insieme: le opere partono da luoghi reali e li conducono verso una visione più fragile e mentale. L’idea della sovrapposizione trasforma l’idea di paesaggio, le montagne dell’Engadina e di Polizzi smettono di essere semplice sfondo e diventano luogo di relazione, dove biografia, letteratura, memoria e distanza prendono forma nella stessa immagine.
