'A SPERA
‘A SPERA is a Sicilian terminology that indicates the monstrance and the bread having the same form located in traditional St. Joseph’s altar). The project is part of a cycle of works that have as common theme the search for symbols capable of aggregating communities. In this case the two communities engaged around the theme of bread are: Salemi with its rich tradition and the immigrants of TERRAFERMA’s hostel. The preparation of bread, a sharing intercultural festive ritual, culminating in the construction of a mandala formed by 132 loaves, triangular and square shaped of 21×21 cm each side. The shape of the installation resumes Islamic patterns with the intention to bring the rite of Salemi’s table into a syncretic dimension in which bread is the element that brings together men and their religions.

‘A SPERA è un termine siciliano che indica il pane a forma di ostensorio che si trova negli altari o cene di San Giuseppe. L’installazione fa parte di un ciclo di opere che hanno come tema comune la ricerca di simboli capaci di aggregare le comunità. In questo caso il tema del pane mette insieme: da una parte Salemi con la sua ricca tradizione degli altari di pane e dall’altra gli immigrati ospitati dal centro TERRAFERMA. La preparazione del pane, momento festoso e rituale di condivisione interculturale, culmina nella costruzione di un mandala formato da 132 pani, triangolari e quadrati di 21×21 cm di lato. Il disegno riprende figurazioni di matrice islamico-orientale con l’intento di riportare il rito delle cene salemitane a una dimensione sincretica, in cui il pane è l’elemento che avvicina gli uomini e le loro religioni.
